Skills practice:
Ring dips and handstands/handstand pushups.
We continued this skills/active rest week by practicing these important moves.
Ring dips are a real challenge, and a great departure from the traditional bar dips.
The first time most people try ring dips they are amazed at how difficult they are,
"But I can do 10 regular dips, why are these so hard?" is a common statement.
Learn the ring dip, practice it over and over and get really good at them, You'll
be knocking them out in no time.
Shoes....shoes.........and more shoes.
Seems like I have a growing number of "crossfit" shoes. I don't do this because I have a fetish for the latest and greatest of footwear, nor am I attempting to make an outlandish fashion statement, footwear serves a function. As all our students know, we constantly mention that a good pair of weightlifting shoes is highly recommended, yes they look like bowling shoes, but they provide great stability, and a great platform for O-lifting, overhead pressing, and squatting. Do yourself a favor,
invest in a good pair of weightlifting shoes (I have Adidas), and use them on the days dedicated to weightlifting. Also, buy yourself a pair of "chuck taylor allstar hightops", you know the canvas shoes that used be the ONLY basketball shoes avail (yes, I also remember 8 track stereos, & "My Three Sons"). They make great shoes for deadlifting, and they are also a cheaper, and good general weightlifting shoes. So make your own fashion statement and have an ever growing number of shoes. You won't be sorry.
